Justice Department Accuses Russians of Interfering in Midterm Elections

FILE-- A voter casts a ballot at polling station at PS 705 Brooklyn Arts & Science Elementary School in Brooklyn, New York, Sept. 13, 2018. Russians working for a close ally of President Vladimir Putin engaged in an elaborate campaign of “information warfare” to interfere with the midterm elections, federal prosecutors said on Oct. 19, in announcing they had charged one of them in the plot. The woman, Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova, 44, of St. Petersburg, was involved in an effort “to spread distrust towards candidates for U.S. political office and the U.S. political system,” prosecutors said.
