DURHAM, N.C. — The CIS Academy caught fire on Saturday afternoon, firefighters said.

Workers were renovating part of the building, at 401 North Driver St., and left drop cords plugged into a temporary power source, said Battalion Chief Scott Roberts, with the Durham Fire Department. The cords were near several containers of paint.

Roberts said the fire caused smoke damage throughout the school, but structural damage was confined to the room under construction.

The Durham city and county fire marshal was investigating the fire, because it occurred at a school, Roberts said.
