CNN: Captain freed; three pirates killed

A U.S. ship captain held by pirates off Somalia has been freed and three of the four pirates have been killed, according to CNN.

MOMBASA, KENYA — A U.S. ship captain held by pirates off Somalia has been freed and three of the four pirates have been killed, according to CNN.

A senior U.S. official with knowledge of the situation said Capt. Richard Phillips is uninjured and in good condition, and that three of the four pirates were killed, CNN.com reported.

The fourth pirate is in custody, according to the Web site, and Phillips was taken aboard the USS Bainbridge, a nearby naval warship.
