Leaving Queens: A Nazi’s Long Flight From Justice Ends

A photo provided by the U.S. Department of Justice shows Jakiw Palij in a U.S. visa photo from 1949. Palij, a former Nazi guard, lived a quiet life in New York City for decades, having lied on his U.S. immigration papers in 1949 about the type of work he did during World War II. But on Aug. 21, 2018, he was deported to Germany, ending a 14-year battle to remove him from American soil. (U.S. Department of Justice via The New York Times) -- FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY. --
