Hurricane Florence: Hundreds Rescued in North Carolina

A downed tree on a home as Hurricane Florence swept through the area in Wilmington, N.C., on Sept. 14, 2018. Florence, lashing the North Carolina coast with strong winds and blinding rain, made landfall Friday morning having already driven dangerous storm surges of several feet into beach and river towns. The eye of the storm came ashore at Wrightsville Beach, N.C., just east of Wilmington, with winds of about 90 miles an hour. (Victor J. Blue/The New York Times)
