Veteran Federal Judge Issues Barbed Rebuke of the Supreme Court

FILE -- Federal Judge Jack Weinstein, on the U.S. District Court bench in Brooklyn since 1967, in his chambers, in New York, Dec. 11, 2017. Weinstein, 96, long known for his progressive leanings and iconoclastic temperament, argued in a decision issued June 11, 2018, that U.S. Supreme Court justices had gone too far in expanding qualified immunity, a legal doctrine that protects law-enforcement officers from being sued for actions they perform on the job.
