Woman killed in accidental shooting inside Moore Co. home, sheriff's office says

Authorities said a woman died from an accidental shooting Friday in Moore County.

According to the Moore County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders responded to a reported shooting around 2 p.m. at the 300 block of Longleaf Drive in the Seven Lakes West subdivision.

The details behind the shooting are unclear.

First responders attempted life-saving measures on the woman, but she died at the scene. The woman was shot in the chest.

Moore County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Andy Conway told WRAL News a man inside the home accidentally shot the woman and confirmed the man and the woman were in their 40s.

The Sheriff’s Office added the two had a “relationship,” but did not elaborate on the nature of their relationship.

Property records confirmed the home belonged to Christopher Loken. West End Fire Chief Erik Stromberg told WRAL News Loken is a volunteer firefighter with the fire department.

Conway said the shooting is under investigation as an accident and everyone has cooperated. Loken has not been charged and is not considered a suspect at this time.

“We’re not considering it to be anything nefarious at this point,” Conway said.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the woman until family is notified.

"This is a tragic situation, and the department is here to support him while we work through the process," Stromberg said.
