After guilty plea, former Wake Forest Chamber president must repay $65K

The former president of the Wake Forest Chamber has pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement. 

In August, Elizabeth Simpers, the former president of the Wake Forest Chamber, was charged with four counts of embezzlement related to that role.

Court records on Monday show that she pleaded guilty to one of those counts, while the other three charges were dropped by prosecutors. 

As part of her plea, Simpers has already done 150 hours of community service, according to court records. She has also paid back $54,000 and is due to pay another $11,984.76 in restitution, the Wake County District Attorney's Office said.

Simpers was given supervised probation for 12 months. 

Simpers declined to comment to WRAL as she left the Wake County courthouse on Monday morning. 

Simpers resigned from the Chamber in 2024. She had been a member of the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners before taking on the Chamber leadership role.
