Wake deputy injured in early morning crash, chase on I-40

A Wake County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a Sunday morning chase and crash. 

Around 3 a.m., a deputy tried to stop a speeding car on Interstate 40 East, but the driver did not stop. According to the sheriff's office, the deputy followed the driver to N.C. Highway 540 in Durham County, when the deputy’s car crashed off the road. The suspect’s vehicle did not stop.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash
