Warrant: Wake County detention officer sold fentanyl, opioids to inmates

A Wake County detention officer has been arrested and charged with trafficking, selling and providing drugs to inmates.

Devin Lamont Williams was given several felony charges for trying to sell fentanyl, synthetic cannabinoids and buprenorphine, according to warrants.

Williams, 33, was charged with felony conspiracy to traffic opium/heroin, providing contraband to inmates and possessing controlled substances on jail premises.

Williams was arrested at the detention facility inside the John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center on Tuesday morning.

“As soon as we were made aware of these allegations, we took immediate action and launched an investigation. This office remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. We will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety of our community or the integrity of this office,” Sheriff Willie Rowe said.

Williams, who has worked with the Wake sheriff's office since 2023, has a court appearance on Tuesday afternoon. He is being held in the Wake County Detention Center under a $2 million bond.
