Wake couple charged with child abuse; 6-month-old had broken ribs

A Wake County couple has been charged after their 6-month-old child was found with broken ribs. Daniel and Lucinda Santamaria, the child's parents, were both charged Monday.

Each faces two counts of felony child abuse and two counts of felony child neglect.

According to the arrest warrants, the parents showed a reckless disregard for human life and failed to provide proper care and supervision for the child.

The warrants state the alleged incident happened on Aug. 14, 2025. Arrest warrants were issued for both parents on April 27, and they were arrested Monday.

Both are scheduled to appear in Wake County court Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
