Teen due in court after 12-year-old girl killed, 9-year-old boy injured near Fuquay-Varina

A teenager charged with the murder of a 12-year-old girl and the assault of a nine-year-old boy will appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies responded to what they initially described as a "serious assault" around 5:20 p.m. Monday at a home on Tobacco Barn Road near Fuquay-Varina. In their initial release, deputies said they found two people injured when they arrived.

After deputies searched the area with a drone and K-9 units Monday evening, they found a juvenile suspect nearby and detained him.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged 16-year-old Jackson Dylan Borrello in connection with this incident. He was charged with murdering a 12-year-old girl and assaulting a nine-year-old boy. The girl's injuries and cause of death will be fully determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. 

The charge for assault states that Borrello tried to kill the nine-year-old with a knife and a hammer.

WCSO said Borrello knew the victims. 

Borrello, who attends Willow Spring High School, is being held under no bond. He was expected to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon, but a judge said that "unforeseen circumstances" prevented that. His appearance was moved to Wednesday.

By North Carolina law, 16-year-olds can be charged as adults for murder offenses so Borrello's case will at least start in the adult system. 

Deputies said their investigation is ongoing.

WRAL News spoke to a woman who identified herself as Jackson’s mother. She said it would be inappropriate for her to comment at this time.
