I'm meteorologist K Campbell in the wr a severe weather center 99 degrees as our forecast time for the Fourth of July. This would actually come into the top three for the hottest fourth of July is on record out at RDU. It is really going to be a sizzling hot day out there. The humidity is up a bit and that means our heat index is near 105 for much of the area and near 100 in our northern counties gets much worse than that. On the heat index could be closer to 110 in the triangle as well as Fayetteville. And this may put us under a heat advisory during the day Friday. So please be careful. We have a high risk for heat exhaustion later this week. One of the places that's perfect for cooling down your local pool or splash pad. If you're headed to celebrate the Fourth of July there, it should be a nice day for it. 90 degrees at noon, mid to upper nineties through the afternoon, dry weather expected during the day. However, that could change tomorrow evening, we have a 30% chance of storms from six through nine o'clock, five o'clock would be probably the earliest we would see any rain pop up in our northern counties. Like per county, orange counties, we could see a few storms around six o'clock. And there may be an isolated storm in the triangle between about seven and nine o'clock. And I know that's right in the heart of the fireworks. It shouldn't be anything widespread. It would be one or two, but we'll be watching this for you all throughout the day tomorrow. Those storms dissipate really as they start to close in on Arne County and Johnston County. So I don't think our southeastern counties will see any rain. Your Fourth of July weekend is a hot 1, 100 degrees Friday 99 on Saturday, 92 on Sunday. And we have a 30% chance of storms so, pretty isolated for Thursday and Friday. But by Saturday, Sunday storm chances are going up, we should have greater coverage of showers and storms due to this cold front approaching and we see all this moisture pushing in ahead of the front. We've got a southwest wind both at the surface and aloft to bring in all that gulf coast moisture. So that's what's going to help to enhance our coverage of storms on the radar most afternoons and evenings starting this weekend, lasting into early next week. And boy, do we need it? The new monitor is out and it shows three quarters of North Carolina under a moderate drought. Now, 9% in the state including parts of eastern North Carolina are under a severe drought. At this point. Your seven day forecast is a hot one but storm chances grow over the weekend and during the first half of next week, it doesn't mean you're going to see rain and storms every day, but we should see more activity on radar most afternoons starting by the weekend.

A man died Tuesday at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after a shootout with Fayetteville police officers.

Murder possession of a firearm by felon and felony conspiracy  The suspect in question refused to come out and barricade himself in an apartment residence with a firearm officers attempted negotiations from about 9:20 a.m. this morning until 1:04 p.m. When shots were fired from inside the residence the suspect exited the apartment exchanging gunfire with members of the violent criminal apprehension team The suspect was transported to Cape Dr Valley Medical Center for treatment and was pronounced dead at the hospital At this time the State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to investigate the officer wall shooting An administrative investigation will be conducted by our office of Professional Standards Internal Affairs Unit I can confirm at this time the three FD police officers members of the violent criminal apprehension team were involved in the exchange of gunfire Any questions any officers shot or hurt in this incident  There's no officers receiving medical treatment at this time and you said that you were serving a warrant for a murder who was he accused of killing That's something they're prepared to release right now that I'll be in a further update not when we first arrived after the subject barricaded himself Evacuations weren't conducted about how many people were told to leave Do you know I don't have that number right off right now Right now it's still an active crime scene and we're still keeping people out of that apartment building when he was coming out I can't answer that right now There was an exchange of gunfire You said this gunfire started when he was inside describe that again of how the gunfire began There were shots that were fired from inside the residence prior to him coming out and targeted at the officers  I don't have that information right now How many officers were involved in this operation There's a multitude of officers I can confirm that three were involved in that exchange of gunfire All right Thank you guys Hey chief those three are on administrative duties that pretty standard in the process of working all those details out now Yes Right Bikes Yeah Right
