Our meteorologist Amy Wyth in the WRELs Severe Weather Center. A few flurries possible tonight, especially north and east of the triangle. It won't add up to anything, but don't be surprised if you do see a few flurries flying around. And overnight tonight, temperatures are going to tumble into the twenties, and the road temperatures are going to go below freezing starting around 1 o'clock in the morning. So if we have any Leftover moisture on roadways overnight tonight, then we could have some black ice in the morning. I don't think it's going to be widespread, but there are some spots that could retain water a little bit better than others. And so we could see a few slick spots in the morning. So just be sure to tune in starting at 4:30 tomorrow morning, and Elizabeth will let you know if we're having any trouble spots. It does look like we could have some isolated spots where we have Little bit of ice on some of the roadways. Overnight tonight, it is going to be cold for everyone, low temperatures in the 20s for everyone. 25 in Durham, 26 in Raleigh, 29 for the low temperature in Fayetteville and in Clinton. And it's also going to be very windy. We'll have winds sustained anywhere from about 10 to 15 MPH, but we can have some gusts up to 35 MPH. So It will feel even colder. This is a look at the temperature and the wind chill starting tomorrow morning, 29 at 5 a.m. with a wind chill of 21. At 7 a.m., a lot of people heading out to school. 26, the air temperature, but the wind chill 1729 by 9 a.m., a wind chill of 21. The wind chills still in the upper 20s at 11 a.m. and still in the low 3. at 1 p.m. so it's going to be a breezy, cold day all day on Tuesday, but at least we'll be back to some sunshine. We have another low pressure system on the in the western part of the country that's going to go across the country and impact us Friday night into Saturday, and it could bring us some snow. The timing would mainly be overnight Friday and into Saturday. Uh, it looks like it would likely start off as snow and then perhaps transition to a wintry mix and then transition to all rain once we get into the second half of Saturday morning. Both the American and the European models are showing the potential for some winter weather. They're in agreement on that. There's some differences in the timing and the amounts. So just keep checking back in for updates, and we'll keep you posted. There is something that we usually look for to get a good snow event. We have to have a nice strong high pressure system to the north of us. It doesn't look like that's going to be the case this time, so the cold air will be a little bit limited. A look at the 1 inch snow potential, and these numbers have gone up through the day today. We're at about a 60% chance of an inch of snow in the triangle. When you bump that up to 3 inches, those chances go way down. It's a 7% chance in the triangle. We do have that chance for some snow Friday night into Saturday, and we will definitely keep you posted on what the model trends are in the coming days, but it's certainly going to be very cold for the next several days. High temperatures will stay in the 40s through at least next Monday.

We're going to have to move this country forward whether we got the Results from the election that we wanted or not Democrats also promising history won't be erased, with President-elect Trump preparing to pardon some January 6th offenders as one of his first acts. Republican leadership now in control in both the House and Senate, looking ahead to the Trump agenda. What he wants to ensure is that we deliver the America first agenda. That is our mission. SOME OPPOSING TEAMS REFER TO IT AS THE BARN. BUT THE ONE THING YOU WERE ALWAYS SURE OF IS WHAT MURDLE IN JONES COUNTY WAS PLAYING A BASKETBALL GAME, YOU COULD HEAR COACH APPLEBEE. I REMEMBER THAT IN THE BABBLE GYM -- GYMNASIUM AND ON THE TRACK. WE WERE PLAYING IN THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH A CHANCE TO GO ON IN THE PLAYOFFS AND TO MAKE IT TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT, WHICH WAS EVERY KIDS' ASPIRATION, EVERY KID DREAMED OF PLAYING IN THE BASKETBALL STATE TOURNAMENT. BUT WE GOT THE LAST CHANCE MY SENIOR YEAR, WE ARE PLAYING OUR ARCH RIVAL IN THEIR GYMNASIUM AND AS WAS TYPICALLY THE CASE, IT WAS A BACK AND FORTH GAME. THEY WERE AHEAD BY A POINT AT THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER, WE WERE AHEAD AT HALF TIME. AND IT GOT DOWN TO THE END OF THE GAME AND WE WERE DOWN ONE POINT WITH FIVE BEING -- FIVE SECONDS LEFT ON THE CLOCK. THE COACH CALLS TIME-OUT, WE CALL A HUDDLE. MY TEAMMATES INBOUND THE BALL, MY TEAMMATE SET A SCREEN FOR ME ON THE BASELINE, BE AND I CAME OUT TO WHAT WOULD BE THE THREE-POINT LINE ALTHOUGH WE DIDN'T HAVE ONE BACK THEN, AND I FIRED THE SHOT THAT I WOULD HOPE THAT WOULD TAKE US OFF TO THE PLAYOFFS. MOST OF THE TEAM GOT ON THE BUS AND WAITING FOR SOME OF THE REST OF US AND THE COACHES. COACH APPLEBEE CAME OVER TO ME AND TAPPED ME ON THE SHOULDER AND SAID IT'S TIME TO GET ON THE BUS, AND BY THE WAY, TRACK STARTS NEXT WEEK. THAT WON'T MY FAVORITE SPORT. HE WAS SENDING AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE, THAT IS THAT YOU GAVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT, THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER SPORT, ANOTHER DAY, AND YOU'RE GOING TO GET ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY DOWN THE ROAD TO DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. SO THAT WAS A REALLY IMPORTANT MESSAGE AND VERY AFFIRMING TO ME AT A TIME WHEN, AS A YOUNG ATHLETE, WHO FELT NOT ONLY I LET MYSELF DOWN BY MY TEAMMATES AS WELL, I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT COMMENT HE MADE TO ME AT THAT CRITICAL TIME IN WHAT WAS EARLY IN MY SPORTS CAREER. WELL, I JUST REMEMBER TOO, LATER AT THAT YEAR -- LATER THAT YEAR, HIM PULLING ME OUT OF CLASS, I THINK IT WAS ENGLISH CLASS TO TELL ME THAT I HAD MADE THE ALLSTATE BASKETBALL TEAM THE FIRST TEAM. AND AS HE CAME OUT, HE KIND OF POINTED AT ME, SIGNALLED THIS WAY, I THOUGHT OH, NO, WHAT HAVE I DONE NOW? WE GOT IN THE HALLWAY, HE COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE EXCITED TO SHARE THAT NEWS. IT WAS AN EXAMPLE HOW INVESTED HE WAS IN THE SUCCESS OF THE PLAYERS HE COACHED AND PEOPLE, THE YOUNG KIDS AROUND HIM, HE WAS ALSO THE PRINCIPAL OF THE HIGH SCHOOL, AND WANTED TO SEE THEM SUCCEED AND DO WELL IN LIFE. WELL, TRACK SEASON WAS THE NEXT SEASON. MY HOMETOWN THERE ARE OFTENTIMES, IF WE HAD A LOT OF SNOW IN THE WINTER, AND SOMETIMES IT DIDN'T GET DRIED UP IN THE SPRING, OR IF WE HAD A WET SPRING FOR THAT MATTER, THE TRACK WHERE WE RAN WAS A DIRT TRACK. IT WAS NORTH OF TOWN. IT WAS A FAIRLY LOW SPOT. SO OFTENTIMES, THE TRACK WAS WET. TO DO OUR CONDITIONING, PARTICULARLY EARLY IN THE SEASON, WE WOULD RUN CITY BLOCKS, A BLOCK WOULD BE LIKE EQUIVALENT OF ABOUT A 400 REPEAT. WE WOULD RUN A SERIES OF THOSE. DO OUR LONG WARM-UP RUNS, THEN RUN CITY BLOCKS. A MOB OF RIOTERS HAD BROKEN INTO THE CAPITOL, AND THAT WE WERE NOT SAFE. I LOOKED TO THE PODIUM AND SAW VICE PRESIDENT PENCE QUICKLY RUSHED OUT OF THE CHAMBER BY HIS DETAIL. AS WE EVACUATED, ACCOMPANIED BY TWO OF THE CAPITOL POLICE OFFICERS, WE TOOK A TURN DOWN THE HALLWAY, OPENED THE DOOR, AND CAME WITHIN SEVERAL YARDS OF ANGRY RIOTERS, BEFORE MY SECURITY DETAIL PULLED US AWAY TO SAFETY. WE WERE MAYBE WITHIN 20 FEET OF THEM. HAD ONE OF THEM LOBLGD THE DOOR OR HAD A -- LOCKED THE DOOR OR HAD A GUN, LORD KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THUS BEGAN ONE OF THE DARKEST, MOST SHAMEFUL DAYS IN AMERICAN HISTORY OF OUR DEMOCRACY. THAT WAS FOUR YEARS AGO TODAY. LESS THAN AN HOUR FROM NOW, THE HOUSE AND SENATE SHALL CONVENE FOR A JOINT SESSION OF CONGRESS TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS OF CERTIFYING THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. TODAY WE WILL NOT SEE THE VIOLENCE WE SAW FOUR YEARS AGO. TODAY THE PROCESS WILL RETURN TO NORMAL AND REMAIN SOLEMN BUT PEACEFUL. WE'RE HERE TODAY TO CONTINUE THE TRANSFER OF POWER, TO ACKNOWLEDGE WHAT THE PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY DECIDED, AND NOTHING MORE. UNFORTUNATELY, TODAY STANDS IN SHARP CONTRAST TO WHAT HAPPENED FOUR YEARS AGO. ON THAT DAY, LAWLESSNESS AND MOB VIOLENCE SOUGHT TO BRING DEMOCRACY TO ITS KNEES. STAFF AND MEMBERS OF CONGRESS HID BENEATH DESKS, BARRICADED THE DOORS OF THEIR OFFICES. RIOTERS SMASHED WINDOWS AND RANSACKED OFFICES AND BROKE INTO THE SENATE AND HOUSE CHAMBERS. INSURRECTIONISTS WAVED CON FED ROAST FLAGS AND DONNED NAZI SYMBOLS. PIPE BOMBS WERE MRARNTED NEAR THE DNC AND RNC. THIS WAS IN NO WAY A PEACEFUL PROTEST. WAS NOT EVEN A PROTEST THAT GOT OUT OF HAND. THIS WAS A DELIBERATE, AND IN SOME CASES PREMEDITATED, ATTEMPT TO SUBVERT THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS THROUGH INTIMIDATION AND VIOLENCE. IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST SHAMEFUL, REPREHENSIBLE EPISODES IN THE HISTORIES OF THIS GREAT NATION, AND IT HAPPENED BECAUSE THE LOSER OF THE 2020 ELECTION REFUSED TO ACCEPT DEFEAT. WE CANNOT LET ANYONE WHITEWASH WHAT HAPPENED HERE FOUR YEARS AGO. FAR TOO MANY INDIVIDUALS HAVE TRIED TO REWRITE THE HISTORY OF JANUARY 6, HAVE TRIED TO SWEEP THE TRUTH UNDER THE RUG AND PRETEND LIKE THE DAY WAS PERFECTLY FINE OR EVEN A MOMENT OF GREAT PATRIOTISM. THAT IS A LIE, PLAIN AND SIMPLE A LIE. FUTURE GENERATIONS MUST NEVER FORGET THE TRUTH. JANUARY 6, 2021, WAS A DAY THAT A VIOLENT MOB TRIED TO HALT THE RESULTS OF A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. IT WAS A DIRECT ASSAULT ON AMERICAN DEMOCRACY. ON THAT DAY, OUR CAPITOL POLICE FACED THEIR HOUR OF MAXIMUM DANGER, BUT THEY RESPONDED WITH MAXIMUM VALOR. OUTNUMBERED AND OVERWHELMED, THE CAPITOL POLICE AND ALL OUR FIRST RESPONDERS BECAME THE DEFENDERS OF OUR DEMOCRACY. TODAY, WE HONOR ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE CAPITOL POLICE, THE D.C. POLICE, OUR SERVICEMEMBERS, AND ALL FIRST RESPONDERS WHO KEPT US SAFE FOUR YEARS AGO, AS WELL AS EVERYONE WHO'S KEPT US SAFE SINCE. WE ACKNOWLEDGE AND THANK ALL THE CAPITOL STAFF WHO STAYED LATE INTO THE NIGHT TO RESTORE ORDER AND CLEAN THE WRECKAGE LEFT BEHIND BY THE RIOTERS. THEY DID THEIR JOB WITHOUT FANFARE, WITHOUT COMPLAINT, AND AWAY FROM THE SPOTLIGHT. THEY JOIN OUR FIRST RESPONDERS AS THE UNSUNG HEROES OF OUR DEMOCRACY, EVERY ONE OF THEM. WE MOURN, OF COURSE, ALL OF THOSE WHOSE LIVES WERE LOST IN CONNECTION WITH THE ATTACK. WE MOURN THE BRAVE OFFICERS WHO DIED IN THE DAYS AND WEEKS AND MONTHS AFTER THE ATTACK. WE PRAY FOR THEIR FAMILIES, THAT THEY FIND COMFORT AND GRACE. AND MR. PRESIDENT, IT IS SHAMEFULLY, UTTERLY OUTRAGEOUS THAT THE PRESIDENT IS CONSIDERING PARDONS FOR THESE RIOTERS WHO BROKE THE LAW, ATTACKED OUR POLICE OFFICERS ON JANUARY 6. PARDONING THE CRIMINALS WHO ASSAULTED POLICE OFFICERS AND TRIED TO HALT THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS WOULD BE A DANGEROUS ENDORSEMENT OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE. IT WOULD SEND A MESSAGE TO THE COUNTRY AND TO THE WORLD THAT THOSE WHO USE FORCE TO GET THEIR WAY WILL NOT BE PUNISHED. IT IS WRONG, IT IS RECKLESS, AND IT WOULD BE AN INSULT TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED IN CONNECTION WITH THAT DAY. ON THAT DAY, THE RIOTERS TRIED TO HALT THE PEACEFUL TRANSFER OF POWER, BUT AS WE KNOW THEY FAILED. THE INSURRECTION FAILED BECAUSE OUR DEMOCRACY IS STRONGER THAN THE GALE FORCE WIND OF MOB VIOLENCE. IT FAILED THAT DAY BECAUSE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS WERE UNITED AMIDST A STORM OF UTTER LAWLESSNESS AND COMMITTED TO CERTIFYING THE RAKES. AS HARD -- THE ELECTION. AS HARD AS JANUARY 6 WAS, IT WILL BE ONE OF THE PROUDEST -- IT WILL BE -- AS HARD AS JANUARY 6 WAS, IT WILL BE ONE OF MY PROUDEST MOMENTS IN OFFICE, BECAUSE ON THAT DAY THE MAJORITY OF US UNITED TO UPHOLD OUR OATHS TO THE CONSTITUTION. I STILL REMEMBER THAT AROUND 5:00 P.M. THAT DAY, LEADER McCONNELL, SPEAKER PELOSI, LEADER McCARTHY AND I GATHERED AND SAID WE'RE GOING BACK INTO SESSION NOW, AND WE ARE GOING TO COUNT THE VOTES. WE DECIDED THIS DESPITE THE WORRIES OF SOME THAT THE CAPITOL WAS NOT YET SAFE, AND WE DID. WE WERE NOT GOING TO LET THE RIOTERS INTERFERE WITH OUR DEMOCRACY. IT WAS A HISTORIC MOMENT OF BIPARTISANSHIP, WHERE BOTH SIDES UNITED IN THE PROTECTION OF OUR DEMOCRACY. MR. PRESIDENT, I MENTION JANUARY 6, 2021, FOR MANY REASONS. I MENTION JANUARY 6 TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT DEMOCRACY IS PRECIOUS AND CAN AT TIMES BE A FRAGILE THING. I MENTION JANUARY 6 TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT FOR ALL COMING TIME, SO THAT FUTURE GENERATIONS MAY KNOW THE TRUTH OF WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT DAY, AND THAT THEY REMAIN VIGILANT AGAINST FUTURE ATTACKS ON OUR DEMOCRACY. WE HOPE WHAT HAPPENS TODAY, RATHER THAN WHAT HAPPENED FOUR YEARS AGO, STANDS AS A SHINING EXAMPLE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS OF HOW ONE CONDUCTS THEMSELVES IN A FREE DEMOCRACY. WE HOPE THAT THE WAY WE DEMOCRATS CONDUCT OURSELVES TODAY HELPS THOSE REPUBLICANS WHO TRIED TO SUBVERT THE ELECTION OF FOUR YEARS AGO UNDERSTAND THE GRAVE NATURE OF THEIR MISTAKE. FAR TOO MANY ON THE OTHER SIDE, FAR TOO MANY, WILLINGLY CLAIM THE ELECTION OF 2020 WAS STOLEN, EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW PERFECTLY WELL IT WAS NOT. OF COURSE, I KNOW PLENTY OF MY REPUBLICAN COLLEAGUES, INCLUDING MY FRIEND THE FORMER REPUBLICAN LEADER, DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE ATTEMPTS TO UNDERMINE THE ELECTION FOUR YEARS AGO, BUT TOO MANY DID. IF WE WANT TO PREVENT ANOTHER ATTACK LIKE JANUARY 6, NEITHER SIDE CAN EVER AGAIN TOLERATE THE KIND OF CONSPIRATORIAL MADNESS WE SAW FOUR YEARS AGO, AND IT STARTS BY SETTING AN EXAMPLE AND DOING THE RIGHT THING TODAY, NO MATTER WHICH SIDE GOT THEIR WAY IN THE ELECTORAL PROCESS. ON THIS, THE FOUR-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE CAPITOL ATTACK, THE ONLY OBSTRUCTION WE WILL SEE IS THE OBSTRUCTION COMING FROM THE STORM. EVEN THEN MOTHER NATURE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP US FROM DOING OUR JOBS TODAY. TODAY WE WILL CONVENE, WE WILL DO OUR JOBS, AND THEN WE MOVE ON TO THE BUSINESS OF GOVERNING FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT OUR OATHS DEMAND OF US. I YIELD THE FLOOR. Former President Jimmy Carter died on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024. Saturday is the first of six days of funeral observances for the president.

And continues to do. We will spend this week. Celebrating this incredible life. And a life that I think we can all agree is as full and powerful as any life can be. As someone said, it's amazing what you can cram into 100 years. But as we celebrate that legacy, I want you to know that in many ways we're talking about the work that you do every day. Many of you have devoted decades to his legacy. You've been his partners you've worked alongside world leaders and the village heroes far beyond the end of the road that are the other people who carry out that legacy who are not in the room today but who all of us in this room know so well and respect so much your expertise, your track record will continue to drive a world. Where people can participate in free and fair and credible elections, a world where the rule of law and human rights are respected and enjoyed not just by some people but by everyone. A world where kids don't go blind from preventable diseases like trachoma. Where there's no such thing as guinea worm disease. Or river blindness and where we've strengthened health systems far beyond the end of the road across some of the most marginalized places in the world that is the work that gets done in this place in these buildings and one of the amazing parts of my grandparents' legacy is the strength of this organization and its ability to continue their work without their physical presence. All of us uh have been thinking about this day and planning for it for a long time but it is obviously still hard uh for all of us, um, for us and my family and I'm sure I can see on your faces for many of you I appreciate that. But just know. That while we mourn my grandfather's passing, I know in my heart, and you all do that his legacy will live on, not only because of the millions of people. That he touched across the globe, but very specifically. Because of your spirit and your knowledge and the work and the track record that you do every day, so for us on behalf of my family to the people in this room and to your colleagues and our colleagues across the world that work with the Carter Center, thank you for what you have done for him. For what you've done for my grandmother and for what you continue to do for the world. Thank you so much. Today's Saturday. And usually every Saturday I'm making the pilgrimage down to Plains, Georgia. And sitting beside. President Carter in the compound. When you walk in the room, he's wrapped in a blanket. It has Psalms 23 on it. One of his favorite songs. The Lord is my shepherd. There's nothing I lack. He lets me lie down in green pastures. He leads me besides quiet waters. He renews my life. He leads me along the right path for his name's sake. Even when I go through the darkest valleys, I fear no danger. For you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord. As long as I live. If you can just use your spiritual imagination. For almost 2 years, our friend, number 39. President Carter Pop pop Dad wrapped in a blanket that says Psalms 23. Man, on that motorcade. There was a lot of love on the side of the road. Every overpass had people on it. It was amazing and, and, uh, gave you goosebumps just to sit in the van. And see the reaction of the people of Georgia. It's so good to be here in the Carter Center. Yeah circle of the life of our family for the last years. I'm so proud of Jason for accepting. To be our family member on the board. And we're trusting him with my father's legacy now, so it's no pressure, but uh. Dad's aspirations and mom's dreams. have been fulfilled in large part. By the people here. By what he did as president and governor. I want to tell you a little bit about him as a human being. When my brothers and I were 10 years old. Uh, we were hired by Carter's Warehouse. To put seals, tags on the top of seed peanut bags. They did a 100 pound bags of burlap and the federal government would get a ticket that said what the germination was in the farm material and then you climb on top of the bags and you put those tickets on 100 bags. We got paid a dime 100. But if the little husk on the peanut, the pink thing on the little outside of it is cracked, the peanut will not come up. So it's a perfect job for 10 year olds. And we learned to begin to learn there. The value of hard work. The value of trusting your neighbors. Most of the people that worked at the warehouse were African American. Our neighbors, the closest one to us were African American and they're the ones I spent my Saturdays with. They were my age. We had a wonderful snow sled we brought with us from Connecticut when we came back and we carved a trail down the side of the canyon across the street from our house, and then we cut a vine off. So if you could go down this thing and when you got to the bottom, if you actually grabbed the vine, you could swing out over the briars and come back without getting hurt. And then you could use the rope to crawl to the top and then pull the sled behind you. This was a mud. On mud, yes. When I was in the 8th grade, I failed. I brought home at Christmas an F in Latin. I didn't see any reason to learn Latin. Nobody I knew spoke it very much. My father was not pleased. And so the next morning he came into my room and said, we were on Christmas vacation. He said, you, you have your Latin book. I said, yes. He said, let me have it. He went to work at Carter's warehouse. When he came home that night, we spent an hour and a half, him teaching me Latin that he had learned from my book that day. He did that every day of Christmas vacation. And the first day of the school year after Christmas. I went to my teacher and asked her if she'd let me take the final over again that she'd given us, the midterm test. And she said, yes, so after school that day, I took that test and I made 100. I owed it to my father who spent that kind of time with me. He was a Boy Scout leader in our town. Uh, one day we, we're trying to get our merit badges and hiking and so we took a 6 mile hike to our pond, one of the farms, about 20 of us in the Boy Scouts. We had a great time. We had hot dogs and marshmallows and whatever and had the big fire going, and at the end all that dad started telling ghost stories. And one particularly bad one at the end was very gross. He claimed it happened on our farm. And so he told us to all go to bed when we were in our just sitting there not doing what to do. And after a little while, we decided that we would use the buddy system to go into the woods to use the bathroom after dark, um, so that we could all get some relief before we went to sleep, because we were sure that we were going to be attacked when we got there. I want to thank all of you here, as Jason said. Because Dad's legacy from Georgia and his governor's office and from the presidency. was a little bit rough at the end of it because of our opposition and the way they framed us. Which was probably somewhat true and somewhat not. But all this stuff after that. It's in the hands of the people that worked here and they still work here now. I see many people here that I don't recognize. And I've welcome you to come, I welcome you to spend your, your time. Doing the kind of things that my parents love to do. And love for us to do. And I need to thank some other people too. The hospice folks. They looked up to my father for 22 months. We're amazing. Every week, we got a report from them on how he was doing, uh, what we could do to make him more comfortable. And it gave us a lot of confidence and And it gave us the ability to, to think about him in a different kind of way. And then we had caregivers. One of them is here in the audience. She, Cynthia was, was with my father for 6 years. They became my father's friends. They are the people, uh, that help keep them alive and comfortable and fed and cleaned, and doing all that kind of stuff that we didn't want to do. It was amazing what they did for us. And another thing I'd like to say is I'd like to thank My family. You know, when you're President of the United States. Uh, you're thinking about your family, but you're not interacting with them very much. Uh, his job was so much more than doing family stuff, so we didn't lose touch, but you had to get an appointment in advance. And that giving up of that time and sharing that was something that affected our family because we didn't have our parents as much as we could have. And I want to thank them for the sacrifice that they made. And all that they gave. I was lucky, 7 years ago, uh, for the 5 years, I went to see my parents 3 nights, 2 days, a little plus, every week for 5 years. I took over the farm from him. He liked that because he was able to boss me around every day. But I actually was able during that time to become friends with my parents. Something I never expected. To be able to sit down and talk to them like human beings instead of the boss. It was an amazing thing for me, something I'll always cherish. Then hospice came and my brother, Jeff and my sister, Amy and my bride, Becky, and I split it up, so I didn't have to go every week. I only went every 4th week, which was kind of amazing. Within 2 weeks every month, Becky and I were apart, and that was difficult for all of us. But he was an amazing man. And he was held up and propped up and soothed by an amazing woman. And the two of them together. Change the world. And it was an amazing thing to watch from so close. And to be able to be involved in. I thank you for your service. Oh. Oh. Oh With your. Oh I OK Oh Of the. Oh. Let us pray. What a friend we have in Jesus. All our sins and grieves to bear. What a privilege it is to carry everything to God in prayer. First Peter 5:7 reminds us that we can cast all of our cares upon thee, for he cares for us. Oh holy and gracious Father, we come today, Lord God, thanking you for your amazing grace. We thank you, dear God, for all that you've done and all that you will continue to do through the lives of your people, Lord God. So today our Father God in heaven, we come thanking you for the man of God that you've placed here on earth, Lord God, who is an example to us, Lord God, as to what you have said in your word, Lord God, how we are to live, Lord God. You allowed Him, oh God, to be the little Christ here on earth, Lord God, to give us the example of God as to how we should live and what we should do. I am reminded in Matthew 25:35 36. When I was hungry, you fed me. When I was naked, you clothed me. When I was thirsty, you gave me drink. When I was a stranger, you took me in. We thank you Father God, for the man of God, Jimmy Carter, Lord God. We thank you, oh God for him living a life, oh God, that you placed in Him, oh God, to be the example for us, oh God, in this nation. We thank you, oh God, for what you allowed him to do through this building the Carter Center, oh God, Building hope, fighting diseases and waging peace, oh God. We thank you, Heavenly Father for the humanitarian that he was in this life, oh God. So our Father God in heaven, we thank you right now, oh heavenly Father, for continuing to do what you have done, oh God. Help us to be the example, Lord God, yet here on earth to live a life as Jimmy Carter lived a life, Lord God. Holy Spirit, we ask that you rest upon this family during these days of sadness, oh God. Father God, our hearts are heavy, but yet, Lord God, we rejoice in what we have seen through his life, oh God. We celebrate his life today, oh God, remembering, oh God, how he helped so many, oh God. He saw no skin color, but yet extended a hand to help someone who was down and out. So Father God, we thank you right now and we bless your holy and righteous name. We come boldly before the throne of grace today, Lord God, continuing to ask, oh God, that you confidence strengthen, oh God, as only you can. You said in your word, Father God, that you will not, you will leave us, but you will not leave us without a comforter. That you would send the Holy Spirit to comfort. So Father God, we ask right now in the name of Jesus that you continue to comfort this family. Be with them throughout the days ahead, oh God, as they are yet traveling, oh God, comfort and strengthen them, oh God. Continue to allow them to bond together in unity and in love, oh God. We ask in the name of Jesus, oh God, that yet we be reminded of Joshua 1:6 to be encouraged and be strong. During these times, oh God, things can happen, families can become apart, but Father God, we ask that you continue to bind them together in unity and in love, oh God. And Father God, I ask, oh God, that the life that he lived, I challenge each of us to live the life as he lived. Let us be the example, Lord God, here on earth that others can see the love of Christ in us. And as I end this prayer, Father God, I leave this prayer as a sentence from his book written faith. Our Creator God, you are with us at any time and at any moment. You're here for each of us to give us guidance, to give us solace, and to give us forgiveness and or to meet other personal needs. We ask in the name of Jesus that you will receive this prayer, that you will continue to conquer this family, be with them, oh God, continuously, bind them together stronger in your word of God. First memorial service for President Jimmy Carter begins

A motorcade escorts the remains of 39th U.S. President Jimmy Carter through his hometown of Plains, Georgia. The motorcade will stop at Carter's boyhood home to pause in front of the family's farm. From there, the late president begins a journey to Atlanta.
