Two separate shootings in Vass, Moore County leave teen and man seriously injured

Two separate shootings that happened about 40 minutes apart in Vass, Moore County left two men, one who is a teenager, seriously injured Wednesday, according to officials. 

Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue said while the incidents were unrelated, both involved two men with serious injuries and required response from CPFR, Moore County EMS and Moore County Sheriff’s Office. 

Just before noon, officials responded to a shooting on Johns Way involving a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was conscious when emergency services arrived and was quickly taken to the hospital by helicopter. 

Then, while crews were restocking, a second report came in around 12:30 p.m. about another shooting on Sandy Oak Drive, just outside of Vass. Officials found a teenager seriously injured with a gunshot wound to the stomach. 

The teenager was also airlifted to a nearby trauma center. 

Officials said the alleged shooter is also a teenager and is believed to be the victim’s brother. While early reports suggested there may have been an argument involved, investigators said there was no evidence of a dispute and currently believe the shooting was accidental.

Since the two involved are minors, officers couldn’t provide more detail. WRAL News is working to confirm if the two are brothers. 

Both incidents remain under investigation by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. No suspects have been identified in either shooting, as officials considered both accidental at this time.
