A man faces attempted first-degree murder and other charges after a 15-year-old was shot early Sunday in Kinston, according to police. 

Around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a burglary in the area of the St. John's Village apartments on Highland Avenue when they heard multiple gunshots nearby.

The 15-year-old was found with a gunshot wound to the chest near an apartment building. EMS performed CPR at the scene until the teenager was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

Officers saw a man running away from the scene and took him into custody. 

Anthony Robinson Jr., 19, of Kinston, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, malicious assault in secret and discharging a weapon into occupied property.

There was no update on the teenager's condition. An investigation is underway.
