A husband and wife from Raleigh make jewelry out of bicycle spokes. The thin spokes are easy to bend, and they accent them with embellishments, such as starfish and dog paws or just colorful beads.

Robert and Carol Smith started making their jewelry eight years ago, having no idea whether they'd sell. The first 30 they made sold quickly, and they were off and bending.
They also make rings, bookmarks,and bud vases out of silver spoons.
Younger folks don't seem to want their grandma's silver sets, and they often donate them to Robert and Carol who re-purpose them. The couple's creativity extends to old tobacco sticks which they fashion into ornaments.
Robert and Carol call themselves The Upcycled Spokesman and sell their products online and at shows and events. They'll be at the Farmer's Market in Raleigh Friday-Sunday, May 29-31.
