Three women, one man shot to death in RTP

The lead detective on the case said the shootings did not appear to have been random. Authorities expected to notify the families of the victims Saturday afternoon and promised an update by 8 p.m.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Durham County sheriff's deputies responded to a shots fired call just after midnight Saturday and found four people – three women and one man – shot to death near the intersection of Park Office Drive and N.C. Highway 54 in Research Triangle Park.

Lt. Stan Harris said all four were adults from Durham between the ages of 22 and 24.

Deputies found the women inside a vehicle parked on the side of the road. The man was found outside the vehicle. Their names were not released, pending notification of family. All four were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for autopsies.

Anyone who may have been in the area and seen anything unusual from 11 p.m. Friday to midnight is asked to call the Durham County Sheriff's Office criminal investigations division at 919-560-0880.
