Fifteen years ago today, WRAL and Capitol Broadcasting Company began offering a comprehensive news and information website called WRAL OnLine.

WRAL was one the first local media companies in the country with a dedicated online staff operating seven days a week, providing local news, sports and weather, plus national and international news and photos from both The Associated Press and Reuters.

The original homepage of the site was an illustrated graphic depicting a fictional city with a Town Hall, sports arena, mall and a television station -- of course. The items and buildings in the graphic represented navigational options for visitors.
