APEX, N.C. — Wake County sheriff's deputies were still at the scene of a shooting just outside Apex Sunday night.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison confirmed that three people were inside the house at 4224 Brook Cross Drive when gunfire erupted around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Wake County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Phyllis Stephens said the shooting was "not a random act," but declined to comment on possible suspects or motives.

Donna Evans, 53, was killed in the shooting, and John Evans, 67, was wounded and was taken to WakeMed, where he was listed in critical condition Monday.

Wake County property records list the Evanses as the owners of the home.

Authorities haven't released the name of a second woman who was in the house at the time. She wasn't injured in the incident.

Police are speaking with that woman, but are not calling her a suspect in the shooting.

No other details have been released.
