DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police said Monday afternoon that they are looking for a 1-year-old boy they believe might have been kidnapped by his uncle.

The child, Eliut Briseno, is 30 inches tall and weighs approximately 32 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a gray and black sweater, black pants and black shoes.

His paternal uncle, Vincente Guerrero-Omana, 34, is Hispanic, stands 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds and has a mustache and goatee. He has brown eyes and brown hair and was last seen wearing a blue shirt with a red stripe and blue jeans.

The two were last seen Sunday in a city bus on Fayetteville Street in Durham.

Sgt. David Addison, with the Durham Police Department, said police were notified about the possible abduction around 1 p.m. Monday. At this point, he said, investigators believe the two are still in the Triangle area.

“Returning the child back to the mother is very important to us,” Addison said.

He did not release any other information, but the boy’s family said they believe Guerrero-Omana has taken the child to Mexico to be with his father, who was recently deported.

Anyone with information about the two’s whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement or 911.

Addison said the case does not qualify as an Amber Alert because a family member allegedly took the child and that investigators have no reason to believe the boy is in any immediate danger.
