NCCU student shot in apparent robbery

Crime Stoppers has offered a reward after a North Carolina Central University student working as a street vendor was shot during an apparent attempted robbery on South Alston Avenue.

DURHAM, N.C. — A North Carolina Central University student working as a street vendor was shot during an apparent attempted robbery on South Alston Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the 24-year-old student was cooking and selling jerk chicken outside LeWayne's Barbershop in the 1900 block of South Alston Avenue around 3:45 p.m. A man approached him, fired several shots and fled.

The student suffered serious injuries and was taken to Duke University Hospital.

Police described the suspect as a black man in his 20s with a brush-style hair cut. He fled in a gray, older-model minivan.

Crime Stoppers offered a reward Friday for information leading to an arrest in the shooting.
