CLAYTON, N.C. — Clayton police said fires that burned two newly constructed homes in an unfinished subdivision Saturday night were likely intentionally set.

Firefighters found two homes on fire on Cameo Court in the Chandler's Ridge subdivision, off Glen Laurel Road, shortly before 10 p.m.

Flames had engulfed the house at 47 Cameo Court, police said. It was essentially destroyed.

The other home at 12 Cameo Court received significant fire, smoke and water damage, police said.

A monetary estimate of the damage to the houses has not been completed.

Police said the two-story houses were the only structures in the subdivision under construction by Gidco Building and Development. They were bother either done or nearly completed, and neither had been sold.

The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting Clayton police in investigating the fires.
