Fayetteville, N.C. — Family members gathered at Pope Air Force Base on Wednesday to welcome home about 120 North Carolina National Guard soldiers.
The soldiers, members of the 449th Theater Aviation Brigade (TAB), spent the past year in Iraq. They were deployed in support of the 10th Mountain Division and conducted command and control operations of Active and Guard aviation units in the central part of Iraq.
Tracy Taylor waited for her husband Kyle. The two married just before he deployed in September 2008.
"I miss him a lot. It's been a big sacrifice. He’s doing what he believes in and I’m just glad he’s back safe," Taylor said.
The couple plans a honeymoon in October.
A public welcome home ceremony for the group will be held on Sept. 20 at the North Carolina National Guard Armory in Morrisville.
