RALEIGH, N.C. — Reverend Sam Wynn greeted his new congregation Sunday.

Wynn was the guest of honor at a reception at Haymount United Methodist Church, where he will serve as as superintendent of the Fayetteville district's United Methodist churches.

Wynn was named to the post in June, but took a leave of absence after his estranged wife, Rosemary Todd Wynn, was killed.

Authorities say Rose Wynn, 53, was attacked June 4 at a home in Raeford. Her 10-year-old son found her bloody and unconscious. She was taken to a hospital, where she died the next day.

Authorities quickly identified Sam Wynn as a person of interest in her death. Hoke County and Wake County sheriff’s deputies searched the home where he lived as pastor of Hollands United Methodist Church in Raleigh.

Rose Wynn's death remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made. Authorities said Sam Wynn is cooperating with the investigation.
