RALEIGH, N.C. — While police on Monday continued to search for a man wanted in connection with the death of a 21-year-old woman, friends of the victim said she recently found out she was pregnant.

A murder warrant was issued Sunday for Khaleel A. Oyeneyin, 22. He is accused in the slaying of Corinnie D. Broadway.

Officers responding to calls about shots fired found Broadway inside a building at 2124-205 Larson Drive around 7 p.m. Saturday.

“He came over and she went back home. Not even 10 minutes later, I heard a gunshot and two minutes after that I hear another one,” said Broadway’s friend and neighbor Shannon Brown.

Brown lives in the apartment next to Broadway’s. After hearing the first gunshot, Brown said she told her boyfriend to call 911.

Broadway died at the scene, police said. Her cause of death was withheld.

Police said that they believe Broadway and Oyeneyin knew each other.

Broadway’s friends said Monday the two were boyfriend and girlfriend. Friends also said Broadway had recently found out she was pregnant and the suspect, known as “J.B.” to them, was the father.

An autopsy will determine if Broadway was pregnant, officials said.

Broadway was a student at Shaw University until last fall. Friends said she wanted to get a degree in social work.

Police said Oyeneyin might be driving a white 1995 Lexus GS 300, with North Carolina license plate number XNM-5900.

Anyone with information that might assist in locating Oyeneyin was asked to call Raleigh police at 919-890-3555 or Crime Stoppers at 919-226-CRIME. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information in felony cases, and callers do not have to identify themselves.
