DUNN, N.C. — Johnston County authorities arrested a mother and son and his girlfriend Wednesday in connection with a Dunn man's death.

Nancy Hernandz, 48; Luis Angel Reyes Hernandez, 27; and Amanda Jean Russell, 26, all of 6928 Godwin Lake Road in Dunn, were arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree murder in the death of Bobby Glenn McLamb, 72. All are being held without bond in the Johnston County Jail.

A landlord found McLamb at about 8:30 a.m. at his residence at 4316 N.C. Highway 242 after he failed to show up to work, sheriff's officials said. Robbery appeared to be the motive, they said.

A sheriff's spokeswoman said McLamb had multiple blunt-force trauma injuries to his torso, but they have not disclosed a cause of death. His body will be sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.

Deputies found two of the suspects about three miles away in woods behind a migrant labor camp. The third suspect was arrested late Wednesday afternoon in the same area. Investigators combed those woods, as well as McLamb's home, the labor camp and the suspects' vehicle for evidence.

Meanwhile Wednesday, neighbors and close friends tried to come to terms with their loss.

They described McLamb, who worked at a nearby hardware store, as a good man who loved to tend his garden and waved at everyone. Some said they had seen him several hours prior to his death.

"I'm so tore up, I don't know what to do," said James Holder, who said McLamb was like a brother. "He used to come to the house and eat supper every night with me and my wife," Holder added.

"I always told him, 'Bobby, if you need me, call me. I'll be right there, 'cause I live so close,'" he added.
