WILSON, N.C. — Wilson police officers fatally shot a man early Monday when he brandished a gun at them, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Narrow Way at about 4:10 a.m. Monday in response to a report that shots had been fired. When they arrived at the scene, a man suspected to be the shooter confronted them with a gun, police said.

The man failed to comply with several orders from the officers, and they fired at him and killed him, police said.

A person who had been shot before police arrived was transported to Wilson Medical Center and then taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital, in Greenville. Police refused to disclose his condition Monday.

Police withheld the names of the initial victim, the man they killed and the officers involved.

The State Bureau of Investigation was called to review the case, which is standard procedure in all officer-involved shootings.
