EFLAND, N.C. — A cell phone helped an Orange county man make a lucky escape after he said two men attacked him and locked him in the trunk of his own car.

Travis Curry told authorities that two men broke into his rural Efland home around 10:30 a.m. The men hit him over the head, stuffed him into the trunk of his car, and then stole several pieces of electronics from his home.

Curry said he used a cell phone to call for help from inside the trunk.

"I tried to get a signal. That was hard," he said. "But, finally, one came in, and then I called 911."

Orange County sheriff's deputies responded and were able to get Curry out of the trunk. He suffered a serious head injury, deputies said.

Authorities said the assailants were last seen leaving the area in what they believe was a green or gray mid-1990s Dodge pickup truck.

No further information was immediately available.
