SELMA, N.C. — A woman was wounded Tuesday when her son shot her at her home near Selma, Johnston County sheriff's deputies said.

Authorities said Sadie Ward, 52, was shot at around 5 p.m. at 146 Kirkwall Lane in the Madison subdivision. Deputies said Andreous Scott, 26, was cut when he crashed through a window after the shooting. It was unclear if Scott jumped through a window or if he was pushed or fell into it.

Deputies said the shooting appeared to stem from an argument, but they did not know what had led to that.

Ward is listed in stable condition at Duke University Hospital. Scott was also taken to the hospital.

Deputies arrested Scott before he was taken from the scene by ambulance. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a weapon into occupied property and attempted breaking and entering.

Scott is being held on $1 million bond.
