CHEROKEE, N.C. — A missing Cherokee teen was reunited with his family Sunday night.

Derick Taylor, 14, told the Cherokee Tribal Police that he was assaulted and kidnapped Sunday afternoon from the Elo Hill Community Center.

He used his cell phone to call officers from a shed. Taylor said he was driven there in a gold-colored vehicle down Aequoni Road but didn't know his exact location.

An Amber Alert was issued for him around 5:30 p.m.

Police said Taylor was released by his abductors around 7 p.m. The teen ran to a nearby gas station where he called his family. Officers arrived soon after to investigate.

Taylor was fine and didn't have any serious injuries, police said. Authorities are still looking for the individuals accused of abducting him.
