CARY, N.C. — A woman who was hit by a tanker truck in Cary early Saturday morning was listed in critical condition Sunday.

Elizabeth Lucresia Peterson, 19, was hit while walking across U.S. Highway 1 South. The driver stopped and called 911, Lt. Mark Parker of the Cary Police Department said.

Peterson suffered serious injuries and was transported to WakeMed. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, Parker said. The investigation into who was at fault continued.

Authorities have not released the name of the tanker driver.

Last week, Cary police dealt with another case of an unidentified pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Investigators spent two days trying to identify Maria Ponce-Perez, 27, after a car hit and killed her near the intersection of Reedy Creek Road and Dynasty Drive on Tuesday. No one reported her as missing, but immigration officials found a fingerprint match in their records.
