DURHAM, N.C. — Police said a man was fatally shot late Sunday night in Durham.

Witnesses reported that a vehicle pulled up to Jeffrey Lee Wells' home on 814 Walker Street and a man got out of the vehicle, firing several shots.

Police said Wells, who had been shot, was able to go back inside of his house, where he later died.

The gunman then fled in the vehicle, which was driven by a second man, authorities said. It is not yet known how many occupants were in the vehicle and investigators have no descriptions of the men. No motive has been determined at this time.

The vehicle was described as a dark-colored, older-model vehicle similar to a Chevrolet Suburban. It had tinted windows, shiny rims and double doors in the back.
