ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man charged in a child pornography case was back in court this week to face additional charges.

Danny Batts, 41, is facing more charges of sex crimes and exploiting a minor, stemming from pornographic photos found on his cell phone, officials said.

According to court records, the photographs show young children performing sex acts with an adult.

Investigators said an acquaintance of Batts found his cell phone, saw pornographic photos and turned it in to police.

Police seized other items from Batts' home, including a computer.

Batts was first arrested in August on 15 counts related to child pornography. Investigators said he could face up to 20 additional charges.

Arrest warrants show some of the offenses took place over a period of more than three months.

Investigators have not disclosed what relationship they believe Batts had with the children shown in the photos. They are still trying to identify some of the children.

The Nash County District Attorney's Office turned the case over to the state Attorney General's Office due to a possible conflict of interest. A relative of Batts' works in the district attorney's office.

Batts remained in jail Wednesday under a $180,000 bond. He is due back in court in December.
