Man Killed By Train

RALEIGH — A man was killed when an Amtrak train hithim Friday night in western Raleigh.

Police say that an Hispanic man in his thirties was walkingalong the train tracks that traverse the N.C. State University campus nearHillsborough Street. At around 9:20 p.m., the conductor ofthe eastbound train spotted the man, blew the whistle, and tried to slowdown. However, it was too late, and the man was hit.

The man's identity has not been released, pending notification of his nextof kin.

The twenty passengers on the train were detained while investigatorscompleted their initial review of the scene.

The fence along the tracks had several openings through which people couldeasily walk onto them. Investigators did not know why the man was on thetracks.
