— Durham police say that someone is targeting day care centers in a disturbing rash of break-ins.

Since Christmas Eve, there have been five break-ins at four Durham day care centers. To make it worse, the thieves apparently ransacked each of businesses.

The director of the La Petite Academy on Guess Road told WRAL that someone stole $353.20 out of the drop box. A VCR was stolen, as was a Nintendo 64 system. They also destroyed the day care's drop box by using a screwdriver.

The Guess Road day care was hit twice. Burglaries were also reported on Neal Road, Ruby Street, and Highway 54. Anyone with information is asked to call Durham Crimestoppers at919-683-1200.
