Law Enforcement Colleagues Say Goodbye

DAVIDSON — Law officers from across the state have saidgoodbye to another colleague killed in the line of duty.

Davidson police officer Mark Swaney, 26, was shot to death onChristmas day during a scuffle with a suspect. The suspect who shot Swaney also died in that shootout.

A caravan of police cars led the procession through the town ofMooresville Sunday.

More than 1000 people filled Fieldstone Presbyterian Church topay their last respects.

Cary police officer Jeff Huser said he thinks some peopledon'tunderstand the risks and dangers faced by law enforcement officers.

Swaney is the fifth North Carolina officer killed in the line of duty sinceJuly.
