Raleigh Police Officer Charged with Assault

RALEIGH — Domestic violence can affect anyone, evensomeone sworn to uphold the law. Now, a Raleigh police officer is onsuspension, charged with assaulting his girlfriend.

Officer Clarence Stanley was arrested Monday after the weekendaltercation. An arrest warrant says Stanley grabbed his girlfriend'sneck, pushed her and twisted her arm at a west Raleigh apartment.

Police investigators say they are treating this as they would any otherdomestic violence case. Sgt. J.K. Harrison says investigators have beentold to do their jobs as usual.

Police say the girlfriend is out of state right now, but when shereturns, they intend to charge her with simple assault for her role inthis incident.
