RALEIGH — With all entrants going home with a medal for their performances, the 1997 North Carolina Special Olympics Fall Games have come to a happy close.
More than 600 athletes participated in the games, which included soccer, roller skating and cycling among the events.
At Lions Park the athletes competed in bocce and tennis Saturday. The games are very rewarding for the players, coaches and everyone involved.
"It's a lot of fun to see them out there hustling, trying their best, working so hard to make everybody happy including themselves," says Coach Alan Harris. "It's a lot of fun to see them smile and get upset and at the same time they get excited about playing."
The finals and awards ceremony were staged Sunday at the various locations where the games were played.
