Actress Performing at Fayetteville Community Theater

FAYETTEVILLE — One actress who's landed in Fayetteville has plenty of experience beingat the center of attention. A community theatre is playing host to a starwho captured one of America's top crowns.

Susan Powell knows what it takes to be a show-stopper. The former MissAmerica from 1981 is host of "Home Matters" on the Discovery Channel.She's now paying a visit to Fayetteville, playing Rosabella in "The MostHappy Fella."

"This is a role I always wanted to do, and it kind of came across myagent's desk, and here I am," said Susan Powell, actress.

Powell is among two dozen cast members at the Cape Fear Regional Theatre.

"I'm thrilled to be here," said Powell. "My roots are in the communitytheatre, and I always do at least one guest appearance every year, oneguest artist appearance, at a community-based theatre such as this."

Powell will help the theatre kick off its 36th season, and people arethrilled she could fit the performance into her schedule.

"She's so easy to know, and so much fun with the company," said Bo Thorp,artistic director. "She doesn't feel like a stranger in a mixed company ofprofessionals and amateurs, and she's just been a delight."

Powell says she's enjoying the play and the company as they hit it offon-stage, and the audience will have plenty to applaud.

"The Most Happy Fella" premieres Friday and runs until October 19th inFayetteville.
