RALEIGH — A North Carolina lawmaker is pushing for awelfare penalty that could cost the state millions of dollars. WRALreported Wednesday that North Carolina missed a deadline underthe new welfare reform law.
The state failed to place 75 percent of two-parent welfare families into the work force. Senator Lauch Faircloth says he wants the governmentto enforce penalties against all states that didn't meet the deadline.That could cost North Carolina $15 million.
