Wake County Bus Drivers May Strike

RALEIGH — By the middle of next week, some Wake County students might be left standing at their bus stops. Drivers are threatening to strike saying new drivers are being hired at higher wages and veteran salaries aren't being adjusted to compensate.
The drivers say if there is no raise forthcoming, there will be no rides to and from school. School Transportation Director Wyatt Harper says he has asked the drivers to be patient. He said he will ask the school board for $2.7 million to pay new drivers and bring current drivers' salaries up to par.
