Wake County Bus Drivers May Strike

RALEIGH — By the middle of next week, some Wake Countystudents might be left standing at their bus stops. Drivers arethreatening to strike saying new drivers are being hired at higher wagesand veteran salaries aren't being adjusted to compensate.

The drivers say if there is no raise forthcoming, there will be norides to and from school. School Transportation Director Wyatt Harper sayshe has asked the drivers to be patient. He said he will ask the schoolboard for $2.7 million to pay new drivers and bring current drivers'salaries up to par.
