Two Arrests Made in Murder of Wake County Woman

RALEIGH — Two East Wake High School students have been charged with the murder of anelderly Wake County woman who lived near the school. Authorities said themotive for the killing of 79-year-old Isabelle Scarboro was robbery,although they say the students took nothing but Scarboro's car keys anddriver's license.

Travis Roberts, 17, of Zebulon, and a 14-year-old Wendell girl have beenarrested.The girl's name is being withheld because she is a juvenile.Roberts is on probation for arson.

Authorities said the two students broke in the back door of Scarboro'shome. Students were suspected after someone found the woman's license onschool grounds.

Major Danny Bellamy of the Wake County Sheriff's Department says thesuspects had been on Scarboro's property before.

Wake County Sheriff John Baker says his department believes the teensentered the house with the intention of robbery.

Wake deputies believe the teenagers intended to take cash andScarboro's car. The cause of Scarboro's death has not been released.Police say they are waiting for the results of an autopsy beforereleasing that information.
