TOWN NAME — The Mitchell County sheriff is going to be able to keep his job, but notwithout first getting a sharp lecture.
Sheriff Vernon Bishop was accused of abusing his authority by asking hisdeputies to tape record the private telephone conversation of a high schoolfootball coach whom he believed was homosexual.
The coach ended up quitting. Yesterday a judge refused to take theSheriff's job away but did give him a good finger-wagging about respectingthe law.
