Posted August 16, 1997 12:00 a.m. EDT

— There were some scary moments Saturday afternoon for the passengers and pilot of a small aircraft flying over Chatham County. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing. The nearest runway was Highway 421.

WRAL has been told the plane made a successful landing around the intersection of Hwy. 421 and Gilmore Lodge Road, just south of Siler City. No one in the plane or on the ground was injured.

The landing has both directions of 421 blocked, while the aircraft is removed. There's no word yet what problems the plane was experiencing, or what provoked the pilot to made an emergency landing.
