Day Care Operator Charged in Infant's Death

Tracy Stidham, day care center operator, faces an involuntary manslaughter charge.
RALEIGH — Wake County's district attorney has chargedtwo people in connection with the death of an infant last month. Theoperator of the illegal center has been charged along with a child who wasbeing cared for there.

Infant Bailey Tippett, 4-months-old, died last month when TraceyStidham left him in the care of her 12-year-old daughter while Stidhamran some errands. Police say one of the children at the day careintentionallykilled the baby.

Stidham is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. A chargeof voluntary manslaughter was placed against an un-named juvenile who wasinside the center, which was located in Stidham's home, at the time.

Because of laws that protect the rights of juveniles, police cannotdisclose other details about the crime or the child.

Prosecutor Cindy Baddour told WRAL-TV5'sMark Robertssays the infant sufferedinjuries which caused his death.

The charge against Stidham is a felony which carries a possible widerange of charges. The court will determine what will happen to the chargedjuvenile.
