— A chartered bus plunged into a river in a deadly crash Tuesday morning on Interstate-95 near Petersburg, Va.

There were 35 people aboard the bus when it ran off the highway and fell into the river below. One of those on board was the adopted grandson of civil rights figure Rosa Parks. He died in the accident.

Adissa Foulke was chaperoning students on the Pathway to Freedom Tour, sponsored in part by the Rosa & Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development. The bus tour followed the path of the underground railroad used by American slaves before the Civil War.
