Raleigh Home Explodes

RALEIGH — A series of explosions rocked a North Raleighhome Sunday, leading to a fire that gutted the structure. No seriousinjuries were reported, although a firefighter was treated for heatexposure.

Neighbors said the events at 4804 Poland Place began about 5:30 p.m. with sounds of explosions, possibly from the garage. Seconds later, thegarage of the two-story home went up in flames.

No one was home at the time; names of the occupants were not available.

The fire produced extensive smoke, which could be seen from theBeltline, miles away. Flames were extinguished about 20 minutes afterfirefighters arrived. The house sustained considerable smoke and heatdamage.
