Ham Radio Enthusiasts Celebrate Anniversary

RALEIGH — It looks like a big tangled mess of wires, towers and electronic gadgets. And it is. But ham radio operators say this is their favorite weekend of the year.
Here and across the country, operators set up transmitter stations to go on the air for 24 hours straight. Each station tries to contact as many others as it can using Morse code, digital transmission, and even satellite links. It's a tradition 64 years old today.
