— The birth of twins is usually a happy event, but a Siler City woman experienced that joy and the death of her husband, all in the same early June week. Now the family is showing its true spirit by carrying on in the face of tragedy.

Sharon Pyrtle gave birth to twin girls on June 10. Five days later, on Father's Day, her husband Gary died of cancer.

She barely had time to grieve. Besides the twins, Pyrtle has three other children to care for. WRAL-TV5'sAmanda Lambspent some time with the Pyrtles and found that, somehow, this courageous family has found the strength to go on.

A home video shows Gary Pyrtle sharing Christmas 1996 with his family. A photograph shows him just before his death holding his newborn twins Elaina Faith and Bethany Hope.

Sharon Pyrtle believes her husband held on to his life so that he could meet the twins.

Sharon manages to carry on with the help of her family, her church and her 3 other children. She says some days she rejoices and other days she mourns.

Lindsey, Michelle and Matthew Pyrtle all say they have fond memories of their dad.

As a school teacher Sharon Pyrtle says she wants to give her children every opportunity in education and in life.

If you would like to help the Pyrtle family, you can send donations to theChildren of Gary Pyrtle Assistance Fundat any First Union National Bank branch office. Be sure to write on your check that it's for the fund.

The family would like to thank everyone who has already given donations through their church.
